Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique is a practical tool for improving your performance. It works by helping you stop getting in your own way, sharpening your thinking so you do what's required of you, and no more.
What does the first lesson involve?
The first lesson has two parts. We start with an introduction to the core ideas behind the work. Then we move to a sitting lesson, where through hands-on guidance you will experience what it's like to stop interfering with yourself.
In later lessons we work with the activities that matter most to you, whether that's walking, presenting, playing an instrument, or something else entirely.
Who is it for?
Professionals, performers and athletes who want to close the gap between their ability and their performance. And anyone else who suspects they are capable of more than is currently coming through.
How many lessons will I need?
That depends on what you're working on and how quickly you pick things up. Some people notice meaningful changes within a few lessons. Most find that a course of 10 to 20 lessons gives them a solid foundation. After that, many continue with lessons to deepen the work.
Do I need to wear anything special?
No special clothing is required.
Where do lessons take place?
I teach in Islington, London. I can also come to your home or office. For groups and workshops, I'm happy to travel.
How long are lessons?
Private lessons are 50–60 minutes. For group lessons and workshops we can discuss what would work best for you.
How do I book?
Send a message on the contact form on the Lessons page and we'll take it from there.
